A Super Christmas

121612YouthWide

The children and youth of Resurrection Church presented “A Super Christmas” their annual Christmas Program, December 16, 2012.

This year’s performance set a contemporary tone as a group of Super Heroes gathered to find a rumored new Super Hero. As they search for the hero they eventually learn that the hero they seek is the  baby Jesus.

Before their quest began the hand bell choirs of Resurrection performed, with some of the members wearing their super hero clothes.

“A Super Christmas”

Opening Litany  Clark Oetting
L Arise, shine, for your Light has come!
And the glory of the Lord is risen upon you!
And nations shall come to your light, and kings to the brightness of your rising!

Tonight we celebrate the coming of Christ, the Light of the world. Our candles bear witness to Light, and brighten this time of celebration together.

Processional Hymn………………………..Oh, Come, All Ye Faithful

Oh, come, all ye faithful, joyful and triumphant!
Oh, come, ye, oh, come ye to Bethlehem;
Come and behold him, born the King of angels;
Oh, come, let us adore him, oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

The highest, most holy, Light of light eternal,
Born of a virgin, a mortal he comes;
Son of the Father now in flesh appearing!
Oh, come, let us adore him, oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

Sing, choirs of angels, sing in exaltation,
Sing all ye citizens of heaven above.
Glory to God……In the highest;
Oh, come, let us adore him, oh, come, let us adore him,
Oh Come, let us adore him, Christ the Lord!

Ring the Bells
A poem by Harry Bolback
Recited by: Madison Walling

Ring the bells, ring the bells, let the whole world know,
Christ was born in Bethlehem many years ago.
Born to die that man might live, came to earth new life to give,
Born of Mary, born so low, many, many years ago.
God the Father gave His Son, gave His own beloved One,
To the wicked sinful earth, to bring mankind His love, new birth.

Ring the bells, ring the bells, what a glorious morn!
Men and angels worship Him, singing, Christ is born!
Born to die on Calvary, born to set His people free,
God Himself in human form, tell it, Christ is born!
He has left His royal throne, He has come to claim His own,
Christ the Lord has come to earth, go spread the news of Jesus’ birth.

Scene I ~ The Meeting

Hymn…………………………………………...Oh, Come, Oh, Come, Emmanuel

Oh, come, oh, come, Emmanuel, and ransom captive Israel,
that morns in lonely exile here
until the son of God appear.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel.

Oh, come, oh, come great Lord of might,
who to your tribes on Sinai’s height
In ancient times once gave the law
in cloud and majesty, and awe.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel.

Oh, come, blest dayspring, come and cheer
our spirits by your advent here;
Disperse the gloomy clouds of night,
and death’s dark shadows put to flight.
Rejoice! Rejoice! Emmanuel shall come to you, O Israel.

Scene II ~ Mary and Joseph
Scripture Reading: Luke 1:26-35; 38

In the sixth month the angel Gabriel was sent by God to a town in Galilee called Nazareth, to a virgin engaged to a man whose name was Joseph, of the house of David. The virgin’s name was Mary. And he came to her and said, “greetings, favored one! The Lord is with you.” But she was much perplexed by his words and pondered what sort of greeting this might be. The angel said to her, “Do not be afraid, Mary, you have found favor with God. And now, you will conceive in your womb and bear a son, and you will name him Jesus. He will be great, and will be called the Son of the Most High, and the Lord God will give to him the throne of his ancestor David. He will reign over the house of Jacob forever, and of his kingdom there will be no end. Mary said to the angel, “How can this be, since I am a virgin?” The angel said to her, “The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you; therefore the child to be born will be holy; he will be called Son of God. Then Mary said, “Here am I, the servant of the Lord; let it be with me, according to your word.” Then the angel departed.

Hymn………………………………………….O Little Town of Bethlehem

O little town of Bethlehem, how still we see thee lie!
Above thy deep and dreamless sleep the silent stars go by;
Yet in thy dark streets shineth the everlasting light.
The hopes and fears of all the years are met in thee tonight.

How silently, how silently the wondrous gift is giv’n!
So God imparts to human hearts the blessings of his heav’n.
No ear can hear his coming; but, in this world of sin,
where meek souls will receive him, still the dear Christ enters in.

Scene III ~ Shepherds watching o’er their flocks
Scripture Reading: Luke 2:8-15

In that region, there were shepherds living in the fields, keeping watch over their flock by night. Then an angel of the Lord stood before them, and the glory of the Lord shone around them, and they were terrified. But the angel said to them, “Do not be afraid; for see – I am bringing you good news of great joy for all the people; to you is born this day in the city of David a Savior, who is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign for you; you will find a child wrapped in bands of cloth and lying in a manger. And suddenly there was with the angel a multitude of the heavenly host, praising God and saying, “Glory to God in the highest Heaven, and on earth peace among those whom he favors!” When the angels had left them and gone into heaven, the shepherds said to one another, “Let us go to Bethlehem and see this thing that has taken place which the Lord has made known to us.

Hymn………………………………………….Angels We Have Heard on High

Angels we have heard on high, sweetly singing o’er the plains,
and the mountains in reply, echoing their joyous strains,
Gloria in excelsis Deo; Gloria in excelsis Deo.
Come to Bethlehem and see him whose birth the angels sing,
come, adore on bended knee Christ the Lord the newborn King.
Gloria in excelsis Deo; Gloria in excelsis Deo

Hymn…………………………………………………….Go Tell it on the Mountain

Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere;
Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!
While shepherds kept their watching
O’er silent flocks by night,
Behold throughout the heavens there shone a holy light.

Go tell it on the mountain, over the hills and ev’rywhere;
Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!
Down in a lonely manger the humble Christ was born;
And God sent us salvation that blessed Christmas morn.

Go tell it on the mountain, Over the hills and ev’rywhere;
Go tell it on the mountain that Jesus Christ is born!

Scene IV ~ Weary Superheros

Hymn………………………………………………………………….Away in a Manger

Away in a manger, no crib for his bed,
the little Lord Jesus laid down his sweet head;
The stars in the sky…looked down where he lay,
the little Lord Jesus asleep on the hay.

Be near me, Lord Jesus; I ask you to stay
close by me forever and love me, I pray.
Bless all the dear children in your tender care
and fit us for heaven to live with you there.

Scene V ~ The Baby Jesus

Hymn……………………………………………………………………Silent Night
Congregation sing verse 1 and 3; Choirs sing verse 2

Silent night, holy night! All is calm, all is bright!
Round yon virgin mother and child.
Holy Infant, so tender and mild,
Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace.

(Luther and Youth Choir sing 2nd verse)

Silent night, holy night! Son of God, love’s pure light
Radiant beams from your holy face,
with the dawn of redeeming grace,
Jesus, Lord, at your birth, Jesus, Lord, at your birth.

A Christmas Benediction  Macey Hughes; Mary Jane Chandler
L On a night like this, thousands of years ago, the world was changed forever. May our hearts be changed and may the light of love from above fill our hearts as we go out into the world and serve our Lord.

L May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ, the love of God the Father, and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be and abide with us all.
C Amen.
L Let the light and love from above fill our hears as we go out into the world and serve the Lord.
C Thanks be to God!

Hymn…………………………………………………………….Joy to the World

Joy to the world, the Lord is come! Let earth receive its King;
Let ev’ry heart prepare him room, and heav’n and nature sing,
And heav’n and nature sing, and heav’n,
and heav’n and nature sing.

Joy to the earth, the Savior reigns! Let all their songs employ,
While fields and floods, rocks, hills and plains,
repeat the sounding joy,
Repeat the sounding joy, repeat, repeat, the sounding joy.

He rules the world with truth and grace,
And makes the nations prove; The glories of his righteousness,
And wonders of his love, and wonders of his love,

And wonders, wonders of his love.
