An ELCA Church serving the Augusta, Georgia area

VBS-Day 1-June 15

We kicked off Vacation Bible School Sunday night with a pop luck dinner (we are Lutherans you know). Everyone was sporting neckties to celebrate Father’s Day.

The kids got to build binoculars help them seek out clues. Mrs. Angie (or Mrs. Chandler as Andy B. called her for the evening) taught everyone a song that we will be singing each night.

“If you ask, it will be given to you. If you seek, the Lord will help you find. If you knock the door will be opened to you. Because God gives good gifts to those who ask Him to.”

These things will be very important to us as we spend the week on this scavenger hunt.

After being given very detailed instructions, everyone, young and old, divided up into groups and took off looking for 7 clues in a church wide scavenger hunt but not before stopping for a group photo on the steps of the church.

Looking high and looking low, the groups found the clues which all tie into this week’s theme and goal: A scavenger hunt to seek out God and Christ and to build Christmas Boxes to give to kids in foreign countries who have never experienced Christmas.

Then the kids took off to the catacombs for a movie on the creation of the world, the teens broke off for their activities and the adults gathered in Reiser Hall for adult VBS with Pastor Hunter. He started with everyone taking personality tests to find out who was the introverts and the extroverts and everything in between. His point is that if we don’t understand our personalities we can’t communication amongst ourselves.

Here are some photos from the day’s activities.

Before starting the scavenger hunt at Luther Church of the Resurrection everyone gathered for a group photo that will be included in the Christmas boxes.
