A Short Note, Dear Friends, to say
…….thank you for your willing, generous and dedicated support of our Lord’s ministry and mission at Resurrection Church. I want to add a special thank you to Pastor Paulwyn Boliek, Reverend Boyd Lien, Frank Chandler, David Harbeson and Dennis Sodomka who provided worship leadership and the proclamation of the Gospel during our vacation.

Folks have been asking me what I do when I go on vacation and I reply that we have members in our congregation who can step right in and provide excellent supply. The fact is that we are very fortunate that we have so many gifted members in our congregation. I’m truly grateful.

Christmas in August was a great success – good attendance, great food, and lots of school supplies for the pupils at Hornsby Elementary School. Thank you for your participation.

September is really the beginning of our church’s year. Sunday, September 9th is Rally Day. We will have the traditional pancake breakfast, the presentation of Bible’s to our fourth graders, and the Sunday School “kick-off.” Our Sunday School includes three adult classes, the Pacesetters, a traditional bible study, meets in room 112; Graceworks meets in room 208; and the Young Adult Class meets in room 212. At the present time, Graceworks and the Young Adult Class are meeting together in room 208 to study Martin Marty’s book “Lutheran Questions, Lutheran Answers.” We have four classes for our young people, children 3 & 4 in room 207, 1st -6th grade in room 211, 7th & 8th grade Confirmation in room 205 and High School in room 210. I encourage you to bring your children and become a part of Sunday School experience at Resurrection.

In addition, September 30 will be our popular “Dinner on the Grounds” celebration where the church supplies a meat and drinks and the congregation brings a covered dish. There is always a variety of delicious sides and desserts. Please be sure to attend.

Our Wednesday Night Suppers will begin on September 5, as well as our music activities for both children and adults — Great fellowship and wonderful food. This and all other normal activities will continue through the end of the year. Also, lunches following the 12:10 service on Wednesdays will resume on the 5th.

Kathie and I have had a wonderful Canadian vacation and will return on September 1 to begin the new church year. Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your pastor and friend,

David B. Hunter, Sr.

Joy and Pain in the Resurrection Family

Congratulations to Frank May and Patricia Simpson on the baptism of their son, Sebastian Nicholas May, July 29th.

Thought of the Month

Focus on the journey, not the destination. Joy is found not in finishing an activity but in doing it.

WELCA NEWS

It’s convention time again and four of us are blessed to be representing Resurrection at the 31st Annual Convention of the Southeastern Synod Women of the ELCA. We will be sharing the music, worship, meetings, workshops and meals, including a special banquet in God’s natural surroundings of Lakepoint State Park, Eufaula, Alabama. We will leave on Thursday, September 13, so that we can assist with the registration of 200 other WELCA ladies. Following a worship service, a final business meeting and board meeting Sunday morning, we will head home. Please check out the WELCA bulletin board for more information on our daily convention activities.

At each convention we select a local charity in the town where the convention is held to provide needed items. This year we will be providing $10 gift cards, individually wrapped snack items and large boxes of cereal for Wiregrass Children‘s Home, Dothan, Alabama. The ages of the children are up to 10 years old.
If you would like to donate either of these items, there will be a collection box beneath the WELCA bulletin board or give them to Kathie, Miriam, Tara or Anne.

Jewelry for Katie’s Table collection has been a tremendous success. Thank you for helping out. All monies collected from the sales go to support Katie’s Table projects (endowment, leadership development and current ministry projects). More information on WELCA bulletin board.

The Annual Fall Luncheon will be Saturday, September 22, 12 noon in Reiser Hall. Meat and drink will be provided, you bring a side dish, dessert and a friend.

We need ladies to serve on the WELCA Board. If interested please contact Miriam Lang or Anne Spray. Debbie Ferone recently moved away and Billie Smith has retired but has promised to “still be around”. We thank you for your many years of dedication.

We continue to collect pull tabs, greeting cards and soap and we still have some stylus pens for sale.

School kit and Health Kit updates…..

WELCA would like to thank you for your participation in the collection of soap, donation of health care and school kits and the making of quilts for Lutheran World Relief this year. We were able to donate 1629 bars of soap, 96 health care kits, 90 school kits and 14 quilts thanks to your generosity.
