A Short Note, Dear Friends, to say,
.. .. thank you for your support of our summer ministries, your presence at worship and your active participation in the mission of our Lord Jesus Christ at and through Resurrection Church.

Thank you, too, to Rev. Bob Byrne, Rev. Paulwyn Boliek, Frank Chandler, David Harbeson, and Dennis Sodomka who provided worship leadership and proclaimed the Gospel for God’s people here while Kathie and I were vacationing in Nova Scotia. By all reports they were faithful and excellent. We are blessed in many ways at Resurrection.

As for the Nova Scotia update, the weather was very good, a couple of days in the 80’s (no humidity), the fish and chips and lobster were outstanding and we even got in the ocean one time. It was not warm (I know, what happened to my mother’s kettle).

Richard continues to decline. However, we did have several good visits with him. The rest of our family is doing well and my nephew, Zachary Frail (he’s Allison’s age) is engaged to be married to Anne Boutilier on August 18,2018. As you might guess, I will be doing the wedding, so ·we will be back there next year.

September is really the beginning of our church’s church year. Sunday, September lOth is Rally Day. We will have the traditional pancake breakfast, the presentation of Bible’s to our fourth graders, and the Sunday School “kick-off.”

Our popular Wednesday Night Suppers will begin again on the 6th, as well as ~ur music activities for both children and adults. Great fellowship and wonderful food.

We are all well aware of the overwhelming flooding and destruction from Hurricane Harvey along the Texas and Louisiana Gulf Coast, and especially he city Houston and surrounding area. Lutheran Disaster Response is assisting in the relief efforts. You will find a disaster response form included here and in your Sunday bulletin. Your prayers and monetary support are needed to bring God’s hope, healing, and renewal to those who have been affected.

Lastly, like you, I have been shocked, saddened, and deeply troubled by violence, intolerance, and animosity across our nation, and the world.

And, like you, I have wondered how to respond. Certainly we can pray, and I’ll say more about that in a moment. It also seems that now, more than ever, is a time when we actively share the good news of the Gospel.

It is through the Gospel that in Jesus Christ, His life, crucifixion, and resurrection that we discover God’s great love for all people. We learn too, that our God is worl<-ing in us, with us, and through us to share that in word and action with the world that God so loves. And, in addition to St. Francis' prayer for peace (which is at the bottom of page 48 in the LBW), might I also suggest we pray something like this: Father God, meet us in our fear and enable us to stand always with the defenseless and those in need. Protect all who put themselves in harm's way to keep others safe. Thwart the plans of all who feel hatred and plot violence. Grant our elected leaders the wisdom to know what is right and the courage to do it. And bless this nation and people that we might be a blessing to this world that you love so much. This we pray in jesus' name. Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you, Your pastor and friend, David Hunter
