Published Monthly

….to say “Blessed are you,” Jesus’ promise from the Sermon on the Mount on All Saint’s Day, November 1st, every year. Usually, my newsletter focus in November is Thanksgiving and Stewardship.

However, at the moment I’m thinking of ‘all the saints,’ those giants of our growing up years with whom death cannot put an end to our relationship with them. There is no doubt, they still live in us. Memory is more than looking back to a time that is no longer; it is looking out into another reality where everything that it ever was continues to grow and change with the life that is in it still.

The people we loved, the people who loved us, the people who taught us things then, and that we come to understand in new and important ways still. “The communion of saints” surely means more than just the echoes of voices that long have ceased to speak, but rather saints in the sense that not only did they touch us once long ago, but that they continue to touch us with the marvels and wonders of life even now.

It is as if they carry something of us on their journey to whatever new shore awaits them, as surely as we carry something of them on our life’s way. That is why, to think of them now is not simply a matter of remembering them as they used to be but of seeing and hearing them in some way as they are now. That is why if they had things to teach us or say to us then, they still have things to say to and teach us now. And they are not just the same things, but new things as well.

Indeed, we are thankful for all the saints!

And this year’s stewardship campaign is in full swing. Kevin and Barbara have pictured the faith and spiritual depth of our congregation and our calling to be stewards of God’s love. We have seen stewardship as a privilege and the resolve to serve and follow our Lord Jesus.

This spring, we faithfully and generously committed to our future ministry at Resurrection. As we approach our support for our 2019 ministry, I know we will do so prayerfully and joyfully.

Lastly, a reminder that we are now in the “catch up season” for this year’s budget.

Thank you, all you saints!

With blessings and prayers, I am, your pastor and friend,

David B. Hunter
