Joy and Pain in the Resurrection Family

Congregational love and sympathy are extended to Gina and Court Bull and family upon the death of Gina’s mother, Shirley Horne, on September 19th.

Thought of the Month

Sometimes you will never know the true value of a moment until it becomes a memory.

A Short Note, Dear Friends, to say….

….”Thank you” for all you saints at Resurrection Church, and that means each of you and all of you. As I write, we are looking forward to Reformation Sunday and the Joint Reformation Service at Mt. Calvary in Johnston. It was Dr. Luther, himself, who so aptly described us as saint and sinner. He got the idea from St. Paul who liked to use the term to describe the folk in the churches to which he was writing. For Paul, the term “saint” was the natural extension of God’s grace in the lives of His people.

…. This past month has been filled with worship and fellowship: Oktoberfest/Red Door Café, Dinner on the Grounds, Wednesday lunch and dinner, and Trunk or Treat this week; regular Sunday and Wednesday worship, the “A Time to Heal” Service for our Community and the Joint Reformation Service this Sunday.

November is our Thanksgiving celebration, Advent Night and the beginning of our preparation for the celebration of Christ’s birth.

We really enjoy having our two youngest grandsons so close to us. We see them often. Last Friday, we had Hunter. He hadn’t been feeling well and he woke from his nap a bit unsettled. I went up and got him and we went back downstairs and sat on the sofa with Hunter on my lap. He just put his head on my chest and sighed and went back to sleeping peacefully. He and Hayes just want to be close to someone who loves them. And I enjoy the wonder of being there together. It gives me great satisfaction that they love their Grampie, but it pains me to know how few times I have gone into the presence of God in that spirit – without any purpose except to say, “I simply want to be with You and glory in who You are – not in what You can do for me – just to be close to someone who loves me.”

I share this because November is also our Annual Stewardship emphasis (specifically November 6, 13, and 20), a time of intentional reflection on the use of our resources. It was Jesus who once said, “Where your treasure is, there your heart will be also.” (Lk. 12:34) Stewardship, specifically the giving of our resources, is the very real action of giving our heart to God, of being close with God without any particular purpose except to say “I just want to be close to You because You love me.”

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your Pastor and Friend
David Hunter

Trip to Wrens Cancelled – Adult Trip

The trip on November 8th to Wrens, Ga and the Dutch House Restaurant has been canceled. This is one of our most popular destinations so we’ll plan another later..

Advent Night Wednesday, November 16th

Our traditional Advent Night activities being the Season of Advent in our hearts and in our homes. This is the event that reminds us to get ready, the Christ Child is on His way! Following supper, on November 16th, we will make decorations to adorn our homes in preparation of the Christmas season. A variety of crafts for children and adults will be available. Watch for sign-up sheets in the gathering area!

Note of Thanks-Heading South….

Matt and I are planning to move back to Clearwater, Florida. We are sad to leave our church family after 45 year membership. Matt is a 3rd generation member. I feel the need to be closer to family. With that in mind, I will be looking for someone to help Kathie Hunter and Sue Nelson with Wee Care. We have people now with various skills that keep us going, their help is greatly appreciated. I will be looking for a sub-committee co-coordinator to take my place. Please contact me or Kathie Hunter if you are interested. ~Jackie Mertins

THANKSGIVING BINGO

On November 12th, our youth will meet at 5:00 to embark on a special service project to help provide food items to those in need during the holidays. We will gather at the church and head out for a game of “food BINGO”. In order for this to be a success, I am looking for several adult drivers to help out (this will depend on how many teams we have!). If you are interested, please contact Cyndi Warren for details.

As well as collecting food during out “BINGO” mission, we have set up a food barrel in the gathering area of Reiser Hall where you can contribute non-perishable food items. All food collected will be boxed and disturbed to those in need during the upcoming holiday season.

CHILDREN and YOUTH CHRISTMAS PROGRAM

Our Children and Youth Christmas Program is set for December 18th. There are many parts for children and youth of ALL ages. If your child is interested in being a part of this year’s program, or you would like to help in some way, please contact Cyndi Warren or Sandra Prichard. Rehearsals begin soon!

Lutheran Services of Georgia

In the aftermath of Hurricane Matthew, Lutheran Services of Georgia is planning a gulf coast mission trip for November 14-18 to Hattiesburg, MS. A variety of skills will be needed for the trip: Cooks, handy-persons, general clean up, carpentry, and a generous heart! If this is something you would be interested in or would like more details, please contact the church office.

to a nursing home or to their own home.
