A short note dear friends,

….to say a special thank you to our youth and their leaders for their excellent worship leadership on Youth Sunday and also, a great big thank you to all who participated in any way in our Variety Show and Chili Cook-Off. Thank you to the servers, the cooks, the “variety” showers, the eaters, and the judges. A grand time was had by all.

At our Annual Meeting we voted to move forward with a capital campaign to provide a new structure, completely renovate, expand, and equip Reiser Hall for ministries of the future. At present, volunteer recruitment is well under way for the campaign which will begin after the Master’s. Exciting days and times ahead.

But before we get to the Alleluias of Easter, and I suppose Masters’ Week in Augusta, and the excitement of a campaign, we must walk the way of the cross. I find it interesting that each of our Lenten gospels alert us in some way to Christ’s coming crucifixion, death and resurrection.

We can only get to the empty tomb of Easter by way of Calvary’s cross. Jesus knows us. He knows the way of the world and the persistence of our sin so He did it “His way.” He took my sin and your sin to His cross in a great act of love and only after He died, was Easter, my forgiveness and your forgiveness, and our celebration possible.

So we walk with Christ. On Wednesday’s our traveling companion shall be Martin Luther (by way of his Small Catechism) – providing opportunity to renew the promises of Baptism and contemplate and re-appropriate the faith of the Church.

And at the center of it all is the cross, the essential symbol of the Christian Church and faith – “you have been sealed by the Holy Spirit and marked with the cross of Christ forever.”

The cross is the very reason St. Paul could write, “For I am certain that neither death, nor life, nor angels, nor principalities, nor things present, nor things to come, nor power, nor height, nor depth nor anything else in all creation, will be able to separate us from the love of God in Christ Jesus our Lord.

In Mark’s gospel on Sunday, as Jesus moved toward Jerusalem and the cross, He invited folks then and folks now to be His disciples. He said, “Follow me.” They heard Him then and they followed and they changed the world.

That can happen again. The following begins every Sunday. Tell your friends, tell everyone. The world needed it then, we surely need it now.

Please keep us in your prayers and know that I love you,

Your pastor and friend,
David B. Hunter

Thought of the Month

Friends are like four-leaf clovers,
hard to find, but
luck to have!

Thank You

A short not to thank you for the many expressions of sympathy toward my family and I on the death of my mother, Alice Newman.
Your comforting words, condolence cards and flowers mean so much. The delicious meal, lovingly prepared by friends on our return from Mom’s memorial service was a true blessing.
Fondly,
Sandra Prichard

WELCA NEWS

February marked the start of the WELCA Personal Care Kit drive in support of Lutheran World Relief. Personal Care Kits are distributed to victims of disasters worldwide. Consider the significance of a clean towel and toiletry items to someone who has lost everything due to flood, hurricane or other natural disasters.

Please deliver the kits to the Narthex or the Gathering Area in Reiser Hall. The drive will continue through the end of April. The list of contents is printed below. Please do not add other items of leave out any of the items listed. Should you prefer to make donations that can be applied to purchase these items, please contact Monica Proctor.

One (1) light-weight bath-size towel (between 20” x 40” and 52” x 27”), dark color recommended
Two or three (2 or 3) bath-size bars of soap (8 or 9 oz., any brand) in original wrapping
One (1) adult-size toothbrush in its original packaging*
One (1) sturdy comb, remove packaging
One (1) metal nail clippers, remove packaging
*Toothbrush multi-packs may be used by sealing an individual toothbrush in a business-size envelope; no plastic bags or wrap

Please do not donate items with any religious symbols, messages, our church name or any items decorated with a U. S. flag, patriotic or military symbols, or references to the armed forces, including camouflage.

Assembly of kit – Fold the towel in half. Place the rest of the items in the towel, fold and roll so nothing falls out. Secure with yarn, ribbon, string or rubber bands.

There will be copies of this list in the Narthex and the Gathering Area in Reiser Hall should you need extras.
