A Short Note, Dear Friends, to say,
…. thank you for your wililng, generous and dedicated support of our Lord; ministry and mission at Resurrection Church. I want to add a special thank you to Pastor Paulwyn Boliek, Frank Chandler, David Harbeson and Dennis Sodomka who provided worship leadership and the proclamation of the Gospel during our vacation.

Folks have been asking me what I do when I go on vacation and I reply that we have members in our congregation who can step right in and provide excellent supply. The fact is that we are very fortunate in that we have so many gifted members in our congregation. I’m truly grateful.

We had a great Rally Day with new Sunday School classes for everyone. The children are following the biblical story beginning in Genesis; the Confirmation Class is in the second year of the Colaborate curriculum we began last year; and the adult classes are just getting into a 12 week study of the protestant reformation as we prepare for the 500th anniversary, in October 2017, of the beginning of the Reformation. We are back “up to speed” at Resurrection.

In addition to our regular ministries and activities, in October, we look forward to the Oktoberfest/Red Door Cafe on October 8th, Dinner on the Grounds on October 16th, Trunk-or-Treat and the Halloween Carnival on October 26th, and the Joint Reformation Service at Mt. Calvary Lutheran Church in Johnston, SC on October
30th.

We also began a preaching series based on the Narrative Lectionary which provides preaching texts beginning in Genesis and working through the Old Testament as we move to Jesus’ birth at Christmas. In other words, we are telling the story from the beginnin~ the way we usually follow a story. In addition, we have a home devotional, “Living the Word,” which connects the stories from Sunday to Sunday with daily Bible readings. Sunday’s lesson was the_Joseph story at the end of Genesis that “moves” the Hebrew people from Canaan to Egypt as we follow the story of God’s working with His all too human people to fulfill His promise to and through His people, then and now. As a preacher, I can tell you that this is a decidedly new approach after 30+ years and a welcome change of pace.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your Pastor and friend,

Thought of the Month

“I cannot and will not recant anything, for to go against conscience is neither right nor safe. Here I stand, I can do no other, so help me God. Amen.” — Martin Luther

Gulf Coast flooding

Gulf Coast flooding….In the aftermath of unprecedented flooding in Louisiana, disaster response efforts have begun. Through congregations, synods and our disaster-affiliated organizations, Lutheran Disaster Response is assisting those who have been affected by the flood waters. The road to recovery will be long. Prayers and support are needed to bring God’s hope, healing, and renewal to those who have been affected by the flood waters. If you would like to contribute and help, please make checks payable to LCR and mark “Gulf Coast Flooding” in the memo line.

The Joint Reformation Service

will be held at Mount Calvary Lutheran (Johnston, SC). Sunday, October 30th at 5:00 p.m.

Oktoberfest and RED DOOR Cafe

Saturday, October 8th, 6:00 – 8:00 p.m. Come and join us for the fun and fellowship!
Reservations are need so call the church office!!

TRUNK-or-TREAT

On Wednesday, October 26th, our parking lot will be transformed into a cavalcade of cars featuring decorated trunks for our children to go “Trunk-or-Treating.” In order for this to work we need your help or should we say “your trunk!” You can decorate your trunk however you wish…use your imagination. And you don’t have to have children to be involved….the more trunks the more fun it is.

There will be someone in the parking lot on that evening helping park the cars in two lines. You will need to have your trunks decorated and “ready for business” at 6:30 when we turn the children loose to “Trunk-or-Treat!!”

If you are planning to decorate your trunk and be a part of this fun, please call the church office or let Cyndi or Cindy know. This will give us some idea of how many trunks to plan for. If you have any questions please call the church office.
SEE YOU THERE!!
