A Short Note, Dear Friends…

…..to say Thank You for your generosity. On Sunday, August 26 we presented a check to Augusta Habitat for Humanity to fully fund the construction of a new home for a family in our community at 2405 Par Drive in the Green Meadows subdivision. This was made possible by your generous response to our Forward on Faith campaign. Thank You.

…..In addition, if you wish to work on “our” Habitat House, please attend to that as timely as possible. The necessary information to do that is on our website and in the bulletins and newsletter. I look forward to seeing you there.

…..As we look forward to next month, we can observe that next month begins this month. That is, our annual Dinner on the Grounds which has been celebrated in October will be celebrated this Sunday, September 30 since we have several special events in October. There is good precedent for this: In Germany, the first day of Oktoberfest was this past Sunday (9/23). I look forward to seeing you “on the grounds” this Sunday.

….The 30th is also the fifth Sunday, one of the four days annually when we receive a special offering for the Downtown Cooperative Church Ministry or DCCM. This is a cooperative and ecumenical ministry of our downtown churches that provides 75 grocery orders each day, Monday through Friday, for families who live in our area. We have been and continue to be a leader in this vital, caring ministry to people in our community.

Indeed, October will be busy. The first event is the Youth Progressive Dinner, the fall youth kick-off event on Saturday, the 6th. That is followed by the start of construction of “our” earlier mentioned Habitat House on the 8th.

Even though Germany’s Oktoberfest celebration is well under way, our celebration of the event will take place on Saturday, October 20th. And then we will transform our parking lot into the exciting fun filled event of Trunk or Treat. Please make your plans early for these events.

And on Reformation Sunday, we will participate in the CSRA Joint Reformation Service that evening at Advent Lutheran Church. This is one of the few special Reformation Services still ongoing. Let’s be sure to support our Lutheran sisters and brothers at Advent as we together celebrate the marvelous Reformation message of the gift and presence of God’s grace in our lives.

Lastly, we are in the stewardship emphasis planning stage, as I write. That means we are living in two different directions at the moment. This is not new. It happens each year at this time and so I must mention it. Do I believe that God will provide for Resurrection Church? Yes. He has provided you, our members, to support our worship and ministry. And you do that faithfully and generously. Thank You.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Pastor David B. Hunter

Thought of the Month

I have held many things in my hands, and I have lost them all; but whatever I have placed in God’s hands, that I still possess.”
~Martin Luther

Oktoberfest

Our annual Oktoberfest will be held Saturday, October 20th 6:00 – 8:30 p.m. Come and join us for the fun and fellowship! Lots of great food, good company, and dancing! Reservations are needed. You can call the church office or watch the Sunday bulletin for the reservation form. Hope to see you there!!

Trunk or Treat-October 31

It’s time for Trunk or Treat. On Wednesday, October 31st, our parking lot will be transformed into a cavalcade of cars featuring decorated trunks for our children to go
“Trunk-or-Treating.” In order for this to work we need your help or should we say “your trunk!” You can decorate your trunk however you wish…use your
imagination. And you don’t have to have children to be involved….the more trunks the more fun it is. There will be someone in the parking lot on that evening helping park the cars in two lines. You will need to have your trunks decorated and “ready for business” at 6:30 when we turn the children loose to “Trunk-or-Treat!!” If you are planning to decorate your trunk and be a part of this fun, please call the church office, let Cyndi know, or fill out the reservation form in the bulletin. This will give us some idea of how many trunks to plan for. If you have any questions please call the church office.

LutherLegends Outing to the Outlets in Commerce

Join us on Thursday, October 18th for a day of shopping at the outlets in Commerce! We will leave the church at 8:00 a.m. that morning. There is a sign up sheet in the hall outside of the workroom…. Please come and join the fellowship!!
