A short note,

Dear Friends ….
. . .. to say thank you to all of our young people for their awesome and inspiring and energetic worship leadership on Youth Sunday. And a special thank you to everyone who worked so willingly to help them prepare. Thank you.
The Lenten Season is upon us. Lent prepares us for the central event of the Christian faith- the death and resurrection of Jesus Christ. This is a time for us to strengthen our faith and life through our intentional focus on the mystery of redemption.
Specifically, it is a time of self-examination. It is not sufficient that we simply return to the story of the passion and death of Jesus Christ so that we are again reminded that He is “the Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world.”

Lent is not a spectator sport. We are called to participate, not just to observe. While we view the event “after the fact,” we are to walk with our Savior from the celebration of Palm Sunday, to the solitude of the Upper Room, the agony of Gethsemane, the injustice of His time of trial, His painful way of the cross and finally, to Calvary’s cross. The event that happened “there” is also happening “here!”

It is vital that the event of salvation become a moment in our own lives, that we see ourselves as participants in the unfolding salvation drama. Indeed, the question of the disciples in the upper room is the question of our personal Lenten journey: “Is it I, Lord?” As we come to grips with their fear filled question, “Is it I, Lord?”

As we will hear our hearts respond: “It is I. It is I who has denied you. It is I who has forsaken you. It is my sin that nailed you to the cross!”

As we step fully and unreservedly into the tragic event of Calvary we can feel the agony, joy and peace of the words we sing: “Lamb of God, you take away the sin of the world, have mercy on us.”

This year we have two Lenten Services:
The Courage to Go On ……. Wednesday’s
Some Beguiling Attractions …. Sunday’s

Lastly, in addition to our regular daily and weekly prayer requests, we must also pray for God’s comfort for the loved ones of the 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians and the other victims of the hatred and violence of the ISIS terrorists. We must pray, too for an end to such hatred and violence.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that we love you,

Your Pastor and friend, David Hunter
