A Short Note, Dear Friends….

…. to say “Thank You” to all who share their talents and their willingness to enable vibrant and inspiring worship among us.

….Thank you too for all the parents who honor the promises they make on behalf of their children at their Baptism. They stand with their Baptism. They stand with their child/children at Confirmation because they stood for their children at their Baptism. And the children and the church are better and blessed for it.

May – Mother’s Day, Music Sunday, Confirmation, and the church’s post-Lenten catching up. A busy month.

And June – Vacation Bible School, Music Camp, Campfirmation, and the beginning of summer. Another busy month. In the midst of all of our summers busy ness, I trust we shall each find some time for relaxation and re-creation because, before we know it, we’ll get going again.

Sunday was Trinity Sunday – the day when we speak of the Trinity, and in particular the Holy Spirit. One of the ways we speak of the Holy Spirit is to say that it is the ongoing presence of Christ working in and through us. That further suggests that we have it in us to be Christs to each other. ( Luther thought this.) We have it in us to work miracles of love and healing as well as to have them worked on us. We have it in us to bless and to forgive and to heal and to grieve and to rejoice with one another with some measure of His compassion as if it were our own. And, in the end, by God’s mercy, the two stories will converge for good and for all, and even though we would never have had the courage or faith to die for Him any more than we have ever managed to live for Him very well either, His story will come true in us at last.

In the meantime, it is our business to speak with our hearts and bear witness to and live out of and live by the words of His holy story as it seeks to find a place among the cacophony of stories around, amid, and about us.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your Pastor and friend,
David B. Hunter

From the FFRE Office….

Thank you for allowing me the privilege of serving our church for the last two years as the Associate for Faith Formation and Religious Education. It has been a very interesting and challenging educational experience for me. Out of necessity, I have had to do research that has improved my knowledge of the Bible and our church. But, I have more work to do in that area; and, I believe I can do it better as a member and a volunteer, than as an employee.
One of the blessings that was given to me through the position has been the renewal of treasured friendships that had lapsed and the forging of valuable new ones. Our church and our church friends are very dear to Nancy and me, and we plan to be a constant presence here for a long time to come.
We are all blessed at Resurrection to have many important and differing ministries that nurture, not only us, but those outside of our church, as well. It takes a large number of volunteers to keep these ministries functioning, and FFRE requires a very large share of them to be successful!!
In order to meet the challenges of life in our ever changing world, we need to assist our children, youth, and teens in developing a strong faith in God and in Christianity. This is their hope for the future and they are our hope for the future. They need to see adult members committed to the church and eager to witness to them as teachers and mentors; so, . . .
Lend a helping hand and volunteer with FFRE! It will be time well spent, as you do something special for someone special (our kids)!!
Sincerely,
Andy B.
