A Short Note, Dear Friends…

….to say, thank you for all that you are and to share these thoughts.

….There comes the time in each of our lives when we must prepare for death. In our culture we do not deal with this well. Getting better for most simply means the desire to live longer on this earth. Still, dying, like giving birth, is a way to a new life.

It is important to nurture constantly the life of the Spirit of Jesus Christ – which is sternal life – that is already in us. Baptism gives us this life, the Lord’s Supper maintains it, and our spiritual practices: prayer, worship, spiritual reading help us deepen and solidify it. They gradually get us ready to let go of our mortal bodies and receive immortality,

Thus, death is no longer the enemy who puts an end to everything but the friend who takes us by the hand and leads us into the kingdom where Christ has promised to “make the whole creation new…look, here God lives among human beings. He is among them and they are His people and He will be their God, Emmanuel – God with us. He will wipe away all the tears and there will be no more dying, and no more sadness or mourning or pain. The world of the past had gone.” (Revelation 21:3-5 paraphrased)
God’s promise to us in Jesus Christ is that we should die into eternal life.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,
Your pastor and friend

WELCA NEWS

About 30 ladies, 3 guests, and one little gentlemen enjoyed Barbara Green’s solo act at the ANNUAL SPRING LUNCHEON OF THE RESURRECTION WOMEN OF THE ELCA in April. Barbara had everyone playing, singing and guessing songs on the kazoos! The food was delicious and fellowship was great! If you missed this one there will be a fall luncheon in September.

Both LOVE CIRCLE and JOY CIRCLE will take a break during summer months. (Meetings will resume in September) However, all projects will continue through the summer.

Lutheran World Relief: Bars of Soap.

Ronald McDonald House: Pull Tabs, Cleaning and Kitchen supplies, and individually wrapped snacks.

Greeting Cards: Save any and all greeting cards as we recycle them to a children’s hospital to be used for craft projects.

Campbell Soup Labels: Campbell Soup has DISCONTINUED the soup label program, but we will take what labels you have so far and we thank you for your help with this worthwhile project.

Hotel Soap and Toiletries: We donate these to the Ronald McDonald House and Safe Homes.

Wee Care: Makes caps, gowns, and blankets for NICU infants. Volunteers are needed. Please contact Jackie Mertins or Kathie Hunter.

Next meeting of the WELCA BOARD will be July 15, 2016.
29th ANNUAL CONVENTION OF THE SOUTHEASTERN SYNOD WOMEN OF THE
ELCA will be September 16 – 18, 2016 at the Hilton Hotel, Peachtree Corners, GA. Anyone interested in attending, please contact Miriam Lang or Anne Spray.

Summer Liturgy

Beginning on June 5th and continuing throughout the summer the setting for both 8:30 a.m. and 11:00 a.m. worship services will use a “Chorale Service of Holy Communion” following the tradition of Martin Luther’s German Mass in which the sung parts of the liturgy of Holy Communion are replaced with familiar hymns.
