A short note, dear friends,
….I am confident of this, the one who begins good work among you will bring to it to completion…” That passage from Saint Paul’s letter to the Philippians (1:6) was the introduction to the letter about the proposal before us at our annual meeting.

As I write we have reached our campaign goal for our new Reiser Hall and a Habitat House. I am grateful to Jeff Newlin’s able and excellent guidance and expertise. We couldn’t have done it without his ability to organize us for the campaign.

However, once our campaign team got going, you were and are tremendous. I am simply overwhelmed by the talents and abilities and good, old-fashioned work ethics of our church. And I am equally excited and grateful for each person’s active participation and willing, generous, and joyful pledge to Forward on Faith. I am happy and excited and most thankful for each of you. I thank God for you.

I should also mention that we now have a major undertaking ahead of us. However, I am equally confident that we shall also rise to the challenge.

In addition to Forward on Faith, May was a wonderful worship month. Music Sunday was simply marvelous. We are truly blessed by all the dedicated and talented folks in our Music Ministries. Of course, Mother’s Day was well-attended (as it always is) and the combination of Pentecost, Confirmation and Commitment and Celebration Sunday was, well — explosive, a bit like that first Pentecost. It is always moving to share in the Rite of Confirmation with our confirmands, Scarlett Oetting, Tyler Hughes, Noah Lindler, and Evan Shaffer, and their families. A special thank you to Angie Chandler and Cyndi Warren who so faithfully prepare the confirmation dinner each year on Saturday evening.

As we look forward to June there are some new things happening:

1. Vacation Bible School and Music Camp will be combined and held from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. This of course is a change. Please help the leaders by registering early. I imagine that there will be some very creative opportunities.
2. The young adult Sunday School class will begin an exploration of our Lutheran approach to our Christian faith, “Lutheran Questions, Lutheran Answers.” This study is written by Dr. Martin Marty, one of the most prominent interpreters of religion and culture in our nation. This will be an excellent opportunity for new folk to our Lutheran faith, or new to Resurrection Church, or interested in a “refresher” or perhaps interested in getting back to Sunday School again, or for the first time. The class will be upstairs in the classroom next to the library. I hope to see you there.

Lastly, earlier this month Kathie and I attended the Synod Assembly in Chattanooga. As excited as we were to attend the Assembly, it certainly didn’t match the happenings here at Resurrection.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your pastor and friend,

Joy and Pain in the Resurrection Family

Thought of the Month

Every day may not be good. But there is something good every day.

2018 ELCA Youth Gathering

On Sunday, June 24th, 7 youth and 4 adults will leave for the Youth Gathering in Houston, TX. Those attending are:

Madison Walling
Sarah Ellen Strickland
Shelby Folger
Scarlett Oetting
Noah Lindler

There will be a short “sending liturgy” during the 11:00 a.m. worship service as we prepare to leave after the service that day.

Over the next couple of weeks we will be collecting bottled water and snacks for the trip. If you would like to help with this or contribute, please drop items in the box outside the workroom or turn into the church office.

Thank you for all the love and support you have shown us as we have prepared for this trip. Please keep us in your prayers as we finalize our plans and head out on this awesome journey together!

The Lutheran Men’s Annual “Pig Roast”

The Lutheran Men’s Annual “Pig Roast” will be June 23rd at Dennis Sodomka’s lake house (118 Confederate Lane, Modoc, SC)

The congregation is invited to join the fellowship! Activities will begin as early as 11:00 a.m. with lunch at 1:30 p.m.
Please bring a side dish to share and your favorite beverage.

Confirmation Class of 2018

Congratulations to four of our teenage members who were confirmed during the late service on Pentecost Sunday, May 20th. The Rite of Confirmation is a sacred time in the lives of these young people as they publicly vow their faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through the affirmation of their baptism. Let us support them with or prayers and encourage them as they take this significant step in their faith journey.

Those confirmed
Evan Shaffer, Noah Lindler, Scarlett Oetting, Tyler Hughes

Congratulations to our 2018 High School Graduates

Nora Rauscher
Madison Walling
