What if there was an opportunity for you to join your children (or your parents) in an engaging Sunday School experience that will leave you feeling…. like a family. Novel concept. Don’t have kids, then come and interact with those little speed demons who you see darting up and down the hall .

This multigenerational experience will start Sunday, June 9th after breakfast. You won’t have far to go. It will be held right in Reiser Hall. There will be movies, hymn singing and somethings that might surprise you. We’ll have guest hosts during the summer.

Worshiping God, sharing the good news of Christ’s love and partaking of the sacraments is the heart of the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection. There are two services on Sunday with holy communion: one at 8:30 am and one at 11 a.m. A nursery is provided for infants, toddlers and children up to five years during worship services and special programs.

In addition to the two Sunday services , there also is a mid-week communion service (Wednesday 12:10 pm) that lasts 35 minutes. Lunch is also served for a nominal fee. During Lent, this service is highlighted by visiting pastors and priests from the many denominations of other downtown churches.

Worship

Worship also provides ways to serve God in His church. If you’ve been wanting to serve, opportunities to help include:

Lay/Communion Assistants — help lead worship by reading scriptures, offering prayers and petitions and assisting with communion at all worship services.

Acolytes — Youth in grades 6-12 who serve during worship by lighting candles and helping with communion.

Ushers — who assist members and guests at worship by providing bulletins, escorting to pews when necessary, offering directions and collecting offering.

Sound System Volunteers — who record Sunday worship services on CDs for shut-ins and others in the congregation who may be interested.

Special Worship Services

During the year, there are several special worship services to which many people look forward. Some of these are:

Joint Reformation Service on Reformation Sunday evening each October. As a celebration of the “birthday” of the Lutheran Church and the Protestant movement. All area Lutheran churches participate in this service.

Music Sunday is an entire service of worship that celebrates God through music. Singers, ringers and instrumentalists provide an upbeat, joyful service.

Youth Sunday another upbeat service that is planned, organized and delivered by our young people. Sometimes there are skits, sometimes heartfelt professions of faith, always an enjoyable experience. The young people also collect money for the hungry and homeless during “Souper Bowl Sunday.”

Family Christmas Program a much-anticipated service by both parents and children! The evening starts with a covered dish supper and ends with the Children’s Christmas Program.

Wednesday Night Lenten Worship is a thematic series of services which start on Ash Wednesday and continue through Lent.
Holy Week beginning with Palm Sunday and continues with worship services at noon and in the evening on Holy Wednesday, Maundy Thursday and Good Friday.

From the choir loft music provides joy at each service

Music

Nothing makes a more joyful noise to the Lord than music! Music is an integral part of worship at Resurrection. An array of vocal and hand bell choirs which include everyone from Pre-K through adult perform throughout the year. In addition, we periodically have instrumentalists, both members and guest performers, who enhance our “joyful noise.”

The Adult Choir rehearses every Wednesday at 7 p.m.

The Youth Choir, for sixth through twelfth graders, provide music for special occasions at church and, occasionally, community events. They rehearse from 5-6 pm Wednesday.

The Luther Choir, for second through fifth graders, teaches fundamentals of music and provides special music during worship service. They also rehearse from 5-6 pm Wednesday.

The Cherub & Genesis Choir, is for Pre-K to first graders. This choir is designed to give youngsters a developmental music program as well as liturgical appreciation. Our hand bell choirs, under the direction of Jean Strickland (706-736-6975) provide another kind of “joyful noise” to worship services on occasion.

Luther Bells, for second through fifth graders, teaches the fundamentals of bell ringing. They rehearse from 5 – 5:30 pm Wednesday.

Youth Bells, a more advanced group, is comprised of sixth through twelfth graders. They rehearse from 5:30 – 6:15 pm Wednesday.

The Adult Bells, which rehearse from 9:45 – 10:45 am Sunday, provide a variety of music for worship services. Previous experience is not a requirement to join this group! Just bring your love of music and a willingness to learn.
