Published Monthly

A short note dear friends,

…to say a special “thank you” for welcoming new people into our church family. This month we received eight new members. It is a great joy to welcome new folks into our Lord’s worship and service at Resurrection Church.

…this month was also our annual stewardship emphasis and today was Commitment Sunday. I want to thank our “Temple Talkers.” Heather Doughtie, Kate Gary and Mike Priebe. Their words were clear and inspiring. As you know, I do look forward to those temple talks each year.

…thank everyone who returned their pledge cards on Commitment Sunday. If you were unable to do that, please attend to it now. We have been and are a generous congregation whose joyful giving continues to touch many lives in the name and service of our Lord Jesus.

I also hope that each of you and your families had a Happy Thanksgiving. It is a grand time to pause, to reflect, and to remember our blessings. T.S. Elliot wrote: “Let your memories lead you.” That is good counsel. It is so easy to recall only the challenges, the hurts, and to nurse grievances, but Thanksgiving moves us in another direction – the positive direction of counting our blessings. The Psalmist wrote: “Bless the Lord, O my soul, and do not forget all His benefits (Psalm 103:2)”. We are as a church and as a people, truly blessed and fortunate. I am confident that we framed this holiday in an attitude of giving thanks.

And there is so much ahead of us in December. The food bags for Augusta Urban Ministries, the ELCA Good Gifts Advent Tree Ornaments (and the Good Gifts catalog in the Church Office) to help folks in great need in our world, Toys-for-Tots, the Mitten Tree, and the Salvation Army Kettle (at Macy’s and Kroger this year). And there’s the Hanging of the Greens (decorating our church for our Christmas celebration), the Children and Youth Christmas Program, and the most wonderful night of the year – our Christmas Eve worship.

I trust that you will have a wonderful Christmas season. Keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your Pastor and friend,

Thought of the Month

Maybe Christmas doesn’t come in a store.
Maybe Christmas perhaps means a little bit more.

Our Wish to You

During the coming Christmas season, may you be blessed with the Spirit of the season, which is peace, the gladness of the season, which is hope, and the heart of the season, which is love.
Merry Christmas from the staff…
Pastor Hunter, Sandra Prichard, Carolyn Gary, Cyndi Warren, Mary Stokes, Rosa Williams and Annette Shells

Poinsettias for Christmas

Poinsettias will be placed in the chancel area prior to the worship services on Christmas Eve. You can order poinsettias to honor or memorilize family and friends. Stop by the church office and fill out a form. Costs $11.50 per poinsettia. Deadline to place your order is Sunday, December 18. You can pick them up after the Christmas Eve service or request they be delivered to members who couldn’t attend.

The Joy of Christmas

Much of the joy of Christmas can be found in sharing with those in need. This Christmas Season we have many opportunities to do just that.

1. ELCA Good Gifts: There are tags on the tree in the entrance of Reiser Hall for items that can be purchased (via a donation) for the needy in foreign countries. You can donate money to purchase a cow, lamb, water containers and much more.

2. Food donations: You can find tags on the tree with a list of food items to be purchased and bagged to feed the hungry in our community.

3. Mitten Tree: There is our traditional mitten tree where we place mittens, gloves, scarves adn hats to be distributed through the soup kitch and the Salvation Army.

4. Coat Barrel: The Coat Barrel is back to collect gently used coats, jackets and heavy sweaters for those who need warm clothing.

Advent Night

was wonderful! We had a tremendous turnout for our annual holiday fun “craft” night. From painting starts, Joy magnets, snowman plates, edible mangers and much more, everyone had a grand time. This fun filled night could not have been possible without the helping hands working at the various tables. If you were unable to make it this year, make sure to attend this fun filled night for children and adults next year.

Special thank yous go to Cheryl Lindleer, Amy Oetting, Kim Beavers, Cinder Folger, Brandi Green, Robyn Walling, Tara Spray, Elvie Walling, Gina Bull, Kate Gary, Carolyn Gary, Heather Doughtie, Nancye Peel, Madison Walling, Jessica Patterson, Cyndi Warren, Angie Chandler, and all the others who pitched in to assist as needed. Thank you Kathleen Wallace for your wonderful holiday treats that made the night even more special and to Sandra Prichard for fillings with the Christmas spirit with an inspiring carol sing.

Hope your Christmas Season is a blessed one.
