A short note to say….

….to say “thank you” for your faithful and willing service to our Lord. As I write, we are preparing to celebrate Christmas in July. It is one of those celebrations where you will do what you do best — reach out and help folks in need of your help.

….This year’s Vacation Bible School was this past month – excited children, and teachers, and adults. We had wonderful summertime meals, good fellowship, great classes – a week of celebration and joy.

And before that I was at Lutheridge for Confirmation Camp or Campfirmation as it is known, with our kids and the kids and pastors from the other congregations in our cluster. This year, our 32nd year, we added two new congregations, Macedonia in Burlington, N.C. and St Luke in Monroe, N.C. The pastors, Richard Goeres and Chris Metze are the sons of Rick Goeres and Tony Metze, two of the original pastors in our group.

I got to spend a week telling some young people about Jesus and they got to experience intentional Christian community – it doesn’t get any better than that. I’m certain that Lutheridge will have a lasting impression on these young people. And, you know what’s really great – they can go back again next year.

Actually, they can start in the first grade. And please stay tuned, the folks at Lutheridge tell me they’re planning some new and exciting opportunities for “kids” our age.

Kathie and I will be vacationing this month (August). I trust that each of you have had or will have some time to rest and recharge and enjoy the vacation season. And wherever you happen to be this summer, our Lord is there because you are His disciples.

Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your Pastor and friend,

David Hunter

Music Ministry

There are many opportunities for all ages and levels of experience to serve the Lord through music at Resurrection. Listed below are musical opportunities. If you have any questions, or if you are still not certain whether you (and your family members) might want to serve, please contact Sandra Prichard, our Music Director.

Early Service Choir
This choir helps to lead the music at the 8:30 a.m. worship service. We meet year round on Sunday mornings at 8:10 a.m. to rehearse the liturgy, hymns, and psalm.

Service Choir
This choir leads the music for the 11:00 a.m. worship service. We meet weekly (September-May) on Wednesday evenings at 6:45 p.m. and on Sunday mornings at 10:30 a.m. Some musical training or experience is a plus but not required to be a part of this choir.

Resurrection Ringers
This adult hand bell choir supports worship by providing music for festival Sundays and other special worship services. The Ringers meet on Sunday mornings at 9:45 a.m. If you are interested, please contact Sandra Prichard or Cindy Folger.

Youth Choir and Hand bells

2018 ELCA Youth Gathering

“This Changes Everything.” 2018 ELCA Youth Gathering. June 27-July 1, 2018 – Houston TX.
Every three years, 30,000 youth and their adult leaders gather for a week of faith formation known as the ELCA Youth Gathering. Through days spent in interactive learning, worship, Bible study, service and fellowship, young people grow in faith and are challenged and inspired to live their faith in their daily lives.
The theme for the 2018 gathering is “This Changes Everything” based on Ephesians 2:8 “for by grace you have been saved through faith, and this is not your own doing; it is the gift of God.” Grace is a foundational and distinctive piece of the Lutheran faith. This gift, undeserved and freely given, changes lives and perspectives as people realize they are enough because of what Christ has done and are called into the world to serve their neighbor and share the good news.
Registration for the gathering begins September 15, 2017. The event is for youth finishing 8th grade – 12th
grade. We will have a meeting/lunch on Sunday, August 13th following the late worship service for those interested in attending the gathering next summer. Come and find out more details and help us to begin planning for this awesome experience!
If you have any question before this, please contact Cyndi in the church office. The Hastag for this event is #ELCAYG2018.
