A Short Note, Dear Friends…

….Christ is Risen, He is Risen, Indeed! More on that later.

….Thank you, each and all of you for your participation and willing dedication in our Lenten, Holy Week, and Easter worship and fellowship. There is much to do here during that time and we have wonderfully willing hands in this church. For us Lent is a journey, truly a spiritual journey through the joys and sorrows of Jesus’ experience in our world and our experience of it as well, to the culmination of the cross on Good Friday in our Tenebrae Service and the incredible joy of Easter Sunday.

Truly, the only way to the Resurrection is through Calvary’s Cross. Indeed, for us Christians, death is followed by Resurrection. Christ is Risen. He is Risen, Indeed! Thank you for all that you do to bring His story to life every day.

We’re now into the church’s catch-up period. We Lutherans tend to get preoccupied when Lent begins and the things of the wider church tend to get set aside until after Easter. Synod Dean’s meetings, the Assembly itself, final preparation for Campfirmation at Lutheridge (one of my favorite weeks of the year), and the like have to happen between Easter and the end of school.

This year our Synod Assembly is in Birmingham, May 27-29. Our congregation gets to send four delegates, two women and two men to the Assembly. I mention this in the event that you may be interested in experiencing the church at the Synodical level. If this is the case, let me know and we’ll try to work that out. My favorite part of the Assembly are the worship services and the keynote speakers and experiencing that we are part of a greater connected church that touches the lives of others from the congregation to the world.

In May we have three celebrations to look forward to: Mother’s Day, Music Sunday, and the Rite of Confirmation on the Day of Pentecost, an important event in the lives of our young people, their families and our congregation.

Lately, we’ve been hearing a lot about fear and anxiety. Greatness is spoken of in the past tense, everything is threatened or possibly already in ruins. There is so much tragic news that when the news is good, it’s hard to hear it.

The declaration of Easter is that all is well. As a Christian, I say this not with the easy optimism of one who has never known a time when things were not well but as one who has also experienced the shadows, even seeming separation from God. In the end, Easter declares God’s grace is the victor. Death is not the end. The end is life. His life and our lives through Him, in Him. In all of its joys and sadness, life has greater depth of beauty and mystery and blessing than we even dare to dream. Christ our Lord has Risen. Indeed!

Please keep us in your prayer and remember that we love you.

Your pastor and friend,

Thought of the Month

When nothing goes right…..go left.

Music Sunday-May 8th

Music Sunday is May 8th at 11:00 a.m. Worship Service (Only one service on this day). Mark your calendars and plan to attend! This is a great opportunity to worship through special music and to enjoy the talents of all of our musicians.

Purses for Homeless Women

We will be collecting purse for homeless women over the next few weeks. Look in your closet and find a purse that you no longer us (still in good condition). In it place the following items….
¬ Small package of tissue
¬ Nail clippers and nail file
¬ Hand lotion
¬ Lip balm
¬ A pair of gloves and socks
¬ Scarf
¬ Change purse with change in it
There will be a box in the gathering area to collect the purses. If you have any questions, please contact Nancy Hodge or the church office.

Pentecost Sunday

Three of our teenage members will be confirmed during the late service on Pentecost Sunday, May 15th. The Rite of Confirmation is a sacred time in the lives of these young people as they will publicly vow their faith in our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, through the affirmation of their baptism. Let us support them with or prayers and encourage them as they take this significant step in their faith journey.
Those to be confirmed: Clark Oetting, Macey Hughes, Danny Klein, and Ben Klein

A Special Occasion

Together with their parents
Samantha Dawn Hamb & Benjamin Louis Mcintosh, request your presence as they exchange vows on the fourteenth of May 2016, 3:30 pm at the Lutheran Church Of Resurrection, Augusta, Ga.
Reception to follow. Please take a “save the date” reminder and RSVP on the bulletin board located outside the workroom.
