A short note, dear friends,
… To say thank you for your fine worship attendance. It is very encouraging to see so many of you in worship Sunday. Worship is the heart of our church’s life. I encourage each of you to make weekly worship a top priority and invite your friends to come to worship with you.
This is the busiest week in the “Christian” year – Holy Week. I cannot begin to thank all the persons who are responsible for all of the preparations behind the scenes for Holy Week and Easter. Our staff is outstanding and our volunteers are numerous and good-spirited. A tip of the halo and a hearty thanks to all of you who make Easter and Holy Week such a glorious week of worship and praise. I thank God everyday for the great privilege that is mine in being part of such a great church with such grand people.
It is with mixed emotion that I report to you that Andy will complete his time with us as Associate for Faith Formation and Religious Education on May 31st. It is time for him to relax and enjoy his retirement. He is very appreciative of the opportunity to serve our congregation and I am grateful for his positive impact on our ministry. It is especially challenging to undertake and give definition to a new position, a position which we will continue. He and Nancy will remain as active members of our congregation.
Sunday is THE day of Resurrection. The Resurrection is unique in the New Testament. There is really no story about the Resurrection in the same way as the stories of the birth of Jesus. Instead it is simply proclaimed as fact. Christ is Risen! In fact, the very existence of the New Testament itself proclaims it. Unless something very real indeed took place on that strange, confused morning, there would be no New Testament, no church, no Christianity.
The earliest written reference to the Resurrection is Saint Paul’s, and he makes no mention of an empty tomb at all. But the fact of the matter is that what convinced the people that He had risen from the dead was not the absence of His corpse but His living presence. It has been so ever since.
I wish each of you a blessed Holy Week and a happy and blessed Easter. Please keep us in your prayers and remember that I love you,

Your Pastor and friend, David Hunter
