A Short Note, Dear Friends…

…to say Christ is Risen!!

When the stone was rolled away from the tomb in Joseph’s garden and the earth shook, we got our first glimpse of a new world, a world where death does not have the last word, a world where injustice is made right, and God’s grace, love, and mercy guided human relationships. Easter shook the world then. Easter should shake the world now.

Holy Week was meaningful and uplifting again this year. The “Service of the Word for Healing” fits Jesus’ passion so well. It is always moving to feel the touch and hear the words of prayer over me. It is good for my spirit.

On Maundy Thursday two of our young people came to God’s altar and received the bread and wine, the body and blood of our Lord Jesus Christ for the very first time. It is truly God with us. That’s not the church’s idea, it originated with Jesus, who said, “It is truly the meal of Grace.”

Good Friday’s Tenebrae was solemn and somber; moving and powerful. The darkness helps us to realize just what a great sacrifice Christ made for each of us.

And Easter was festive and glorious! A grand celebration. The beauty of the church, the splendid power of our music and the joyful energy of the worshippers were uplifting and truly inspiring. He is risen, indeed!

As I write this letter we are about to follow up our Lenten season with another major undertaking, Forward On Faith, a capital campaign to equip us to move boldly into God’s future for our church’s witness and mission.

This is a spiritual journey and we are approaching it in a spiritual way. This journey together will officially begin this Sunday, April 15th. Vision Sunday will focus on the vision for a new Reiser Hall and God’s calling for our witness at Resurrection Church.

You will receive a packet of devotional materials to guide your journey. We want Forward On Faith to be a spiritual journey for each of us.

Let’s face it, no one has a savings fund for a capital campaign. That means we will have to reprioritize the way we allocate our money. That is never easy. It requires time to think and process, to ask and answer difficult questions, spiritual questions. And so, we’re inviting each of you to seek the help of our God, to pray each day, “Dear Lord, what would you do through me to accomplish your vision in our church? Help me discern a sacrifice for our campaign that is meaningful and joyful.”

Please keep us in your prayers and with blessings and prayers for everything good, I am…

Your pastor and friend,
David B. Hunter
